Teaching kids to read, study, and enjoy the Bible can be a complex task for parents. In the standard public school, little to no emphasis is placed on the Word of God. As a matter of fact, most schools in this day in age do not even allow children to bring the Bible to school with them. Several schools and individuals in the government are even branching out to attempt to take God’s name from the Pledge of Allegiance. As a parent, it is your role and in your list of responsibilities to teach your child about the Bible, and encourage them to use it frequently. Here, I will share some strategies on how you can engage in the task of teaching kids to read, study, and enjoy the Bible.
In the Bible, there is a book called Proverbs. If you take a look at chapter 22, verse 6, it says: “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it”. When children are at a very young age, you should introduce them to the Word of God if your foundation is based on biblical teachings. You can do this by studying Bible stories and then telling them to your child, purchasing a children’s Bible, and even taking the child to the church or congregation that you attend. All of these activities will eventually impact the child’s decision to experience salvation when they reach the age of accountability. They will grow to enjoy the Bible, and learn from it.
The next way that you can go about teaching kids to read, study, and enjoy the Bible is to teach them the art of prayer. Now, this may seem a little odd considering that the Bible does not have to be used in order to pray. However, prayer helps the child to develop their own relationship with God. As this relationship grows and develops, the child will experience a transformation both mentally and spiritually. As a result of this, they will want to read the Bible and learn as much as they possibly can in order to ensure that their spiritual walk with God is sound, pure, and productive.
When it comes to teaching kids to read, study, and enjoy the Bible, you may elect to homeschool the child or send them to a school that actually places a value on the lessons that are contained within the Bible. Honestly, the public school lacks in this area. Due to the expansion of religions, they try very diligently to keep it away from school. You may find that by sending your child to a school that lacks value when it comes to God and the bible that the child becomes confused and maybe even experiences a lack of confidence in their walk that is spiritual based. You may want to consider homeschooling them or sending them to a Bible based educational facility.
As you can tell by the information listed here, teaching kids to read, study, and enjoy the Bible may take a little bit of work. In many cases, it may even get to the point where you want to give in and give up. It is important to avoid doing this. You are preparing your child for one of the most important decisions that they will ever make in their life – and that is choosing to be saved by Jesus Christ. As a matter of fact, this IS the most important decision that they will make. Use the strategies listed here to teaching your kids to appreciate the Bible, and you are sure to be successful! |
